My Second Year Experience at UC: A Reflection
My second year at UC started with achieving two of the goals I set for myself last year: to be a Turner Ambassador and to become a member of the Racial Awareness Program (RAPP). Being an ambassador and the Co-Vice President of the Education Committee was a wonderful experience, and I cannot wait to do it again next year! I loved helping the new students in my scholarship transition from high school to college and getting to know them was a hilarious experience. RAPP was also a great experience, as I learned a lot about myself and about how to express my thoughts and opinions. RAPP truly changed my life.
During the fall semester, all of my close friends (who are a variety engineering majors) were on co-op, so I had to go through the stress of school alone, in a sense. But, by not having my friends readily available, I was able to make some new friends and was more willingly to talk to people in my classes and organizations. For spring semester, I decided to take a class that involved a trip to Ireland and Northern Ireland in June. The class was very informative and the trip was absolutely amazing. Besides learning more about the subject we studied in the classroom, I also became good friends with the people from the class as we bonded during our adventures abroad.
My classes for the past year have also provided me with great professors, two of whom stand out in particular. Dr. Sarah Stitzlein was my professor for my second honors experience, a class called save our schools, and she became my mentor for the organization I was a part of during the spring, the Ohio Student Education Policy Institute. Professor Brenda Hieronymus was my teacher for one of my education classes in the spring, and she will again be my professor in the coming fall. Both of these professors instructed me in ways that made me think differently about education and helped me gain confidence in both student teaching and my major in general.
I cannot wait for the coming school year as I continue to work as a Turner Ambassador and will also be an ambassador for the College of Education, Criminal Justice, and Human Services (and Information Technology). I will be starting my practicum, which I am sure will be a wondrous experience. Overall, the next year looks like it will be even better than this past year- and this past year was incredible!
